Men believed to be Boko Haram insurgents on Friday raided and killed 11 people in a camp for displaced persons in Banki.
The IDP camp, which is situated on the Cameroon-Nigeria border, has over 45,000 people in it.
According to reports, the terrorists invaded the camp wielded weapons, including knives with which they stabbed and killed 11 people.
Speaking to newsmen, a senior military officer said the incidence occurred around 12:30am after the terrorists broke the barricade protecting the IDP camp in a bid to steal food.
They killed 11 IDPs and wounded two in the attack.
The incident was further confirmed by a member of the civilian JTF in the locale, Adamu Ahmad.
He said the use of knives by the insurgents was to avoid alerting soldiers in the area with gunshots.
The attack by the insurgents confirms reports by the military that the terrorists are finding it hard to access food and are taking desperate measures now.
