The caretaker chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has dismissed the report that the country has finally exited from the recession, warning that statistics differ from reality.
On Tuesday, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that Nigeria has come out of recession.
Makarfi, in a statement, described the news of the exit as mere statistics, which does not reflect the “reality as it affects ordinary Nigerians.”
PDP is not praying for the country to be in recession. Statistics may indicate one thing, but reality is different.
For any economic recovery to be meaningful, it must positively impact on the lives of the people at the lower level.
Makarfi’s position correlates with that of millions of Nigerians struggling to make a living in the past few years following the crash in the price of crude oil in the international market.topics from
