Former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili has congratulated the D’Tigresse for the recent success at the FIBA Afrobasket championship in Bamako, Mali after emerging champions, beating Senegal 65-46.
Ezekwesili who took to her Twitter account congratulate the girls also described boxing as a formalized Market of Violence”.
The co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) advocacy group showed her dismay at people paying to watch what she described as violence sport, saying she is not a fan of boxing and wrestling.
I can never understand how people pay money to watch 2 people beating each other mercilessly. I call it the “formalized Market of Violence.
Her reaction was to the “Money fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor which the American won by TKO in the tenth round in Las Vegas.
Ezekwesili on her Twitter page posted : “Hopefully some of you did not watch @FloydMayweather make a mincemeat of @TheNotoriousMMA just so your wives will tremble @ your new skills.
She also lamented that children were been introduced into the sport to practice it on each other, noting that the situation is not a pretty sight as violence around children, women and men around the world continue to be on the increase.
I am a believer in Choice so of course cannot decide what people choose to watch – boxing or wrestling but I am not at all a fan.I also do not like the idea of children being inducted into fans of boxing or wrestling as they start early to practice on others.
Violence is on the increase all around us – against children, girls, women&men. It is not a pretty sight @ all. WE should do more to end.
The match between Mayweather and McGregor reportedly racked in over $100m dollars as fans trooped out to watch the fight as some also subscribed to pay per view not to miss the action.
Obviousely not a fan, Ezekwesili noted that she now has a team sge can subscribe pay per view for.
Anyways, this rant is to let you all know that there is a better group of people to “Pay to Watch” now- our Tigresses of @NigeriaBasket !
