Ezekwesili Reprimands Gov Okorocha, FG Over Imo Market Death

Former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili has reprimanded Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and the Federal government on how they handled the demolition exercise at Eke Ukwu Market, which left three people dead.

Ezekwesili took to her Twitter page to extend her condolence to the victims of the exercise that flouted a standing order of a court of competent jurisdiction.

These Police shootings/killings of civilians are simply getting out of hand. What now is the explanation for the Owerri market tragedy?

She further stated that the Federal Government need a Special Initiative on Civil-Military and Police-Community Relations to handle such issues that would have averted loss of lives.

The Federal Government does really need a Special Initiative on Civil-Military and Police-Community Relations. These killings are “open sores”The Federal Government does really need a Special Initiative on Civil-Military & Police-Community Relations. These killings are open sores.

It beats me stiff that we have still not improved how States and FG handle resettlement issues involving their poorer population. Why?

Public Accountability is a construct that our Democracy and citizens have not fully understood to truly embrace. It is key to reducing killings.

I hate this high of condolences we all keep giving to families of victims.Yet we must, when people grieve. God’s comfort to his family.

She also extended her condolences to the victims Houston-Texas badly affected by devastating Hurricane Harvey and Markudi, whose property were washed away by flood.

Our prayers also extend to the people of Houston-Texas badly affected by devastating #HurricaneHarvey. May these tough moments not last.

Our thoughts and prayers go to our compatriots in flooded Makurdi. Don’t even know what to ask you to do to keep warm. Please hold strong.
