A pressure group has called for the resignation of Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, for saying she would not support President Muhammadu Buhari should he decide to seek re-election in 2019.
The minister had last week claimed president Buhari vowed to serve only one term, adding that she would support former vice-president Atiku Abubakar for the presidency.
Her comments (as expected) did not go down well with her colleagues in the ruling All progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to her comments on Friday, a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and National Vice Chairman, Northwest zone, Inuwa Abdulkadir, said Alhassan had begun to bite the finger feeding her.
And the pressure group, Buhari Support Organisation, Enugu State Chapter, on Sunday demanded the resignation of the Minister.
The group, while stating that Buhari never said he was going to serve one term, said Alhassan should, without any delay, resign her appointment as a minister in Buhari’s cabinet.
Chairman of the group in the state Chief Anike Nwoga, in a statement, said the minister was not loyal to Buhari’s administration.
We know Atiku Abubakar is her godfather but it is difficult for us to comprehend why she should make such an outburst against President Buhari.
Her outburst clearly shows her disloyalty to the Buhari government and so we see no reason why she should remain in office as minister.
She should be honourable enough to resign and face Atiku Abubakar’s 2019 campaign.
