  Police Drags Cleric To Court For Insulting Emir Sanusi

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arraigned Shiek Nasiru Bazallah before a Kano Magistrate Court for allegedly insulting the Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi.

The police alleged that Shiek Bazallah incited disturbance and attempted to defame the character of the Emir, contrary to Section 114, 392 and 399 of the penal code.

Sanusi, on May 8, 2017, lodged a complaint to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, alleging that the cleric, on March 20, 2017, acted in a manner which defamed his character.

The Emir said that the Islamic scholar gathered his followers at Goron Dutse quarters, where he made statements to incite disturbance and defame the monarch.

Bazallah , while urging the court to grant him bail, said the allegations leveled against him were false.

Inspector Haziel Ledapwa, the police prosecutor informed the court that investigation was still on going.

The presiding magistrate, Hassan Fagge, in his ruling granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, including two reliable sureties.
