The Presidency, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), and Afenifere have hailed Igbo political leaders for rejecting calls for secession of the South East by pro-Biafra groups.

A host of Igbo political leaders at a meeting during the weekend in Enugu declared support for a united Nigeria where peace, love, fairness, justice, equity and equality of opportunities are paramount regardless of creed, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation.

The meeting, which addressed the state of the nation, also condemned all hate speeches and conduct emanating from any section of the country in this regard.

The meeting, which started about 7p.m on Saturday and lasted until the early hours of Sunday, was attended by South East governors, members of the National Assembly, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and selected Igbo leaders.

The leaders also threw their weight behind the call for full restructuring of the country on the platform of fairness and equity.

Governor Dave Umahi, the chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, announced the outcome of the meeting in the early hours of Sunday in Enugu while addressing newsmen.

He said they were in consultation with leaders from other parts of the country with a view to engaging the federal government in a meaningful dialogue.

According to him, the region was in full support of the 2014 National Conference report and urged the federal government to set up structures for implementing same within a reasonable time.
