Presidency Says Osinbajo Will Assent To 2017 Budget Bill

The presidency has assured Nigerians of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo readiness to sign the 2017 budget into law.

It, however, said the Clerk of the National Assembly is yet to transmit the document.

The National Assembly had passed the Appropriation Bill on Thursday last week and await its transmission to the president for his assent.

A top presidency source, while speaking with Vanguard on Sunday night, assured Nigerians of a speedy assent to the Bill especially as the lifespan of the 2016 budget has elapsed already.

”The budget has not been officially transmitted to us yet…so until it is transmitted formally by the Clerk of the National Assembly we should not be discussing signing.

”But the Presidency is keenly awaiting the budget and we have assurances that it is on its way. We shall act with urgency and promptly when we get it,” the Source said.

The budget presented in December 2016 before the two chambers of the national assembly with an estimate of N7.28 trillion was increased to N7.44 trillion by the federal lawmakers.
