A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Femi Fani-Kayode says Federal Government’s stance on hate speech is anti-democratic.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in a recent speech vowed to criminalise hate speeches, days after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo declared it as an act of terrorism.
But the former Minister of Aviation on Sunday rubbished government’s position on it.
Calling a mass murderer a mass murderer, a racist a racist, a bigot a bigot, a monster a monster and a tyrant a tyrant is NOT hate speech.
It is called speaking truth to power and it is the life-blood of democracy. Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to go back to school.
On the protest by traders in Owerri against Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state over the demolition of the largest market in the state capital, Fani-Kayode said: ”When will this pot-bellied illiterate, this filthy sodomite, this one-legged ritualist and this ravenous beast stop killing people in Imo?”
The demolition of the Eke-Ukwu market in Owerri on Saturday led to confrontation between the traders at the market and security operatives.
The protest allegedly led to the death of a 10-year-old boy and two others.
