Senior special adviser to the president on media, Femi Adesina, has revealed the reason behind presidency’s decision to address SGF Babachir Lawal and NIA DG, Wale Oke’s issues at the same time.
The SGF has been facing corruption allegation by the senate which is currently investigating the matter.
The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) discovered $43m at Ikoyi Osborne Tower which the NIA had laid claim to.
Speaking on Channel’s Sunrise Daily, Adesina said the cases were lumped together because the presidency was ready to set-up an investigation team.
“The government has been elected and a government is in place to do something it believes. And the government will do what it believes is right at any given time.
“The government believes that setting up an investigation panel at this time is right and the government has the mandate of the people. So, the government is doing it.
“It will not satisfy everybody, but it doesn’t matter.
When asked why the presidency set up the committee despite the availability of the government agencies like the EFCC or DSS, which could have easily carried out the investigation, Adesina said Nigerians will always find faults in every decision the federal government take.
“It’s a matter of procedure by the government. If the government feels this is the way it wants to go about it and it is lawful, then, their is nothing wrong with it.
“I believe there is nothing wrong in the government setting up a panel to investigate these issues.”topics from
