Acting President has commended the Nigerian military over the success recorded in the fight against insurgency.
This was part of the message he delivered across to Nigerians today, Monday 29th of May to marks the 2nd anniversary of our assumption of office and Democracy day celebration.
"We are thankful to God for giving us hope as we have faced challenges of the past two years.
"In the North East of our country, Boko Haram that openly challenged our sovereignty has been put on the back foot by our gallant military.
"In the last two years, close to 1 million displaced persons have returned home and 106 of our daughters from Chibok have regained freedom.
He noted that President Buhari's vision for the NigerDelta is a comprehensive plan that will ensure the people benefit fully from the wealth of the region
"Included in that new vision is the long overdue environmental clean-up of the NigerDelta beginning with Ogoniland which we launched last year.
"We are working with State Govts to design effective strategies to deal with recent threats to security such as herdsmen clashes with farmers.
"In the fight against corruption, we have focused on bringing persons accused of corruption to justice. We will not relent in our efforts," he said.
He said the federal government is also institutionalising safeguards and deterrents and the coverage of the TSA and introduced efficient budgeting systems.
"The Efficiency Unit of the Ministry of Finance has succeeded in plugging leakages amounting to billions of Naira over the last two years.
"We have taken seriously our promise to save and invest for the future even against the backdrop of our revenue challenges.
"We have in the last two years added $500 million to our Sovereign Wealth Fund and $87 million to the Excess Crude Account.
"Admittedly, the economy has proven to be the biggest challenge of all.
He pointed that President Muhammadu Buhari administration has been extremely mindful of the many sacrifices that it has made over the last few years.
"Our target has been a combination of short-term interventions to cushion pain, medium to long-term efforts aimed at rebuilding the economy," he said.topics from
