Mother of late Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini, Alhaja Sikirat Yekini, has won N2 million in the recent episode of “Who wants to be a Millionaire”.
Sikirat who won the prize during the annual ‘Who Deserves to Be a Millionaire?’, was said to have been living in abject poverty in 2016.
The aged woman believed to be in her 80’s, won the money through the help of veteran Nollywood thespians Dejumo Lewis and Binta Ayo Mogaji-Oduleye.
Senate President Bukola Saraki has been taking care of the deceased football legend’s mother since it was revealed in 2016 that she was living in abject poverty.
It was gathered that he employed a nurse to take care of the octogenarian and gave a tricycle, popular as ‘Keke Napep’, to Rashidi Yekini’s younger brother.
According to Saraki, he has financed the rebuilding of her sinking borehole, renovated the aged woman’s residence and upgraded her shop to a mini-mart.
The senate president who is passionate about sport added that his aim was to make the Yekinis feel special and not neglected.
Saraki also availed himself the opportunity to announce an annual football competition for the Under-13 boys “so another Rasheed Yekini can be discovered among the youth from Ijagbo, Ira and Offa.”
He said that the competition would be tagged Rasheed Yekini U-13 football competition to acknowledge the influence the late soccer star had on Super Eagles football and that he would sponsor the competition annually.
