CAF Champions League (CAFCL) representatives Rivers United have moved closer to the group stage of the competition after they defeated visitors Al-Merreikh of Sudan 3-0 in the first leg of the first round clash played at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Ivorian import Guy Kuemian was the star of the show as he netted a brace in the opening minutes of the game before Esosa Igbinoba added a third goal in the second goal. The 3-0 win gives Rivers United a healthy lead ahead of the second leg clash in Omdurman, Sudan on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
However, Nigeria’s second representative Enugu Rangers have a big mountain to climb after they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Egyptian giants SC Zamalek in the first leg of their first round clash.
